本家「LAW & ORDER」シリーズのカーティス、ブリスコー、マッコイ、ヴァン・ビューレンらおなじみの主要キャラクターも登場！
クリス・ノース演じるマイク・ローガン主演、「ＬＡＷ ＆ ＯＲＤＥＲ」シリーズ初のＴＶムービー！
「LAW & ORDER」第1話からの主要キャラクターであったが、シーズン5最終回にて、激情に駆られて市会議員を殴り、スタテン島に左遷という形で番組を去っていた刑事マイク・ローガン。彼をふたたび主人公に据えた、シリーズ初のTVムービーが「LAW & ORDER: 指紋が明かす真実」である。ローガンを演じる俳優クリス・ノースは、ドラマ「SEX AND THE CITY」ミスター・ビッグ役でも有名だが、本作では俳優としてだけでなく企画にも携わっており、この後、スピンオフ「LAW & ORDER: クリミナル・インテント」にて、同じローガン役としてレギュラー出演を果たす。
「LAW & ORDER」のシーズン9第5話と6話の間で放送された本作は、その本家「LAW & ORDER」よりカーティス（ベンジャミン・ブラット）、ブリスコー（ジェリー・オーバック）、マッコイ（サム・ウォーターストン）、ヴァン・ビューレン（S・エパサ・マーカーソン）、プロファチ（ジョン・フィオーレ）が、スピンオフ「LAW & ORDER: 性犯罪特捜班」よりクレイゲン（ダン・フロレク）が登場。また、本作の後、「LAW & ORDER: 性犯罪特捜班」にてフィン刑事役としてレギュラー出演することになるアイスTが、ここではフィン刑事とは違う役で登場している。なお本作は、1999年、エドガー・アラン・ポー賞最優秀TV長編作品賞を受賞している。
