不可能を可能にする捜査機関IMF（IMPOSSIBLE MISSION FORCE）は、暗躍する国際犯罪を追跡し、陰謀を破滅にみちび導く極秘の組織である。毎回の任務は、小型のレーザーディスクによって指示される。メッセージを受け取り作戦を練るのはリーダーのジム・フェルプス。そして彼とともに任務の遂行にあたるのが、それぞれの分野のエキスパートたちである。変装と語学の才能をフルに活用するニコラス、ハイテク機器を駆使し情報収集やトリック作戦を補佐する電子工学の天才グラント、肉体派のマックスは銃器と格闘技のオーソリティ。果たして彼らが命を賭けて挑む今回の任務とは？
