サムの母メアリーは彼が赤ん坊の頃、全身から火を噴き出すという超常現象で死んでしまったが、幼かった彼はその時の記憶がなかった。大学生になったサムの前に突然兄ディーンが現れた。「父ジョンが行方不明になったから一緒に捜してくれ」と言うのだ。ジョンはメアリーの死後、メアリーを殺した悪魔を追い悪霊ハンターとなっており、兄ディーンはそれに従っていたが、超常現象が信じられないサムは、彼らと距離を置いていたのだった。渋々ディーンに同行するサムだったが…。
