世界で愛される“ピーター・パン”誕生の物語を壮大なスケールで描いたファンタジー・アドベンチャー大作。監督・脚本は、「アリス・イン・ワンダーランド／不思議の国のアリス」「アルゴノーツ 伝説の冒険者たち」などTVムービーを多く手がけるニック・ウィリング。ジミー（後のフック船長）役に、映画『ノッティングヒルの恋人』『アメイジング・スパイダーマン』のリス・アイファンズ。主人公ピーターを演じるのは、映画『ライラの冒険 黄金の羅針盤』のチャーリー・ロウ。その他の出演にTV「プッシング・デイジー ～恋するパイメーカー～」のアンナ・フリエル、映画『エイリアン3』『ラスト・アクション・ヒーロー』のチャールズ・ダンス（前編のみ）。
また、本作と同じモチーフを扱ったスティーヴン・スピルバーグ監督の映画『フック』にてスミー役を演じたボブ・ホスキンスが、本作でも同じスミー役を演じているのも見どころ。さらに、映画『パイレーツ・オブ・カリビアン』シリーズで人気を集める女優キーラ・ナイトレイが、木の精霊ティンカーベルの声を演じているのも注目だ。
