ノースカロライナ州トゥリーヒルの町。トゥリーヒル高校に通うルーカス・スコットとネイサン・スコットは、ダン・スコットを父に持つ異母兄弟だ。ともにバスケットボールのプレーヤーだが、ネイサンは学校のチーム「レイヴンズ」のスター選手。一方ルーカスは、川沿いの公園で仲間たちと遊び半分の試合をする毎日だった。ダンの兄キースは、レイヴンズのコーチ、ホワイティにルーカスのプレーを見てくれと頼む。公園でプレーするルーカスを見て、コーチは「チームに入らないか」と誘うが、ルーカスは即答で断る。しかしネイサンは、自分の実力を見せつけるため、ルーカスに1対1の勝負を申し込む。
