海外ドラマおすすめコラム vol.2　スリルだけではなくユーモアもたっぷりな英国ミステリードラマ「イン・ザ・ダーク」

 

INTHEDARK_a_yoko600.jpg4月のスーパー！ドラマＴＶでお薦めは英国ミステリードラマ「イン・ザ・ダーク」の日本初放送だ。
 
以前もどこかで書いたが、英国のミステリー系ドラマでは主人公の刑事・捜査官がプロとして行動することが多く、米国のドラマのヒロイックな主人公に比べてクールに見えることが多い。しかし、本作のヒロイン、ヘレン（「リッパー・ストリート」でロング・スーザン役を演じたマイアンナ・バーリング）は過去の事件のトラウマを引きずり、感情を前面に押し出すタイプ。それでいてちょっとアクが強いのが英国的で、主人公として魅力的だ。
 
マンチェスターの警察で働くヘレンは、故郷の田舎町で起きた少女2人の誘拐事件で、少女時代の親友リンダの夫が逮捕されたと知って急いで帰省する。それから誘拐事件の謎、ヘレンが故郷を嫌う理由とつながる彼女とリンダの過去の秘密、妊娠しているヘレンのお腹の子の問題といった複数のミステリーが絡み合い、面白さは加速していく。原作は小説『グッナイ、スリーピーヘッド』が「刑事トム・ソーン 声なき目撃者」としてドラマ化された英国の人気作家マーク・ビリンガムによる2本の小説。文字通りに“ダーク”な物語だが、妊婦であるカレンが妙に行動的だったりとコミカルな要素もふんだんなので、見ていて重い気分になることがあまり無いのが優れている。
 
ビリンガムは元俳優で、何と有名なロサンゼルスの“ザ・コメディ・ストア”の舞台に立ったこともあるそうだ。本作にはフィルという科学捜査官が登場するが、次々と笑いを誘うので期待してほしい。演じるのは日本でも放送された「ピープ・ショー ボクたち妄想族」のコミカル俳優マット・キング。スリルもユーモアもたっぷりで、各話50分前後×全4話という尺も見やすく（途中で急展開があるのは小説2本のドラマ化だからだろう）、英国のドラマは重い・暗いと思っている海外ドラマ好きの人こそ、ぜひトライしてみてほしい。
