海外ドラマおすすめコラム vol.14　映画界の名監督たちにもぜひ注目したい 「MACGYVER／マクガイバー シーズン2」

MACGYVER S2_yoko.jpg8月のスーパー！ドラマTVの目玉は「MACGYVER／マクガイバー シーズン2」の独占日本初放送開始。米国では過去の人気ドラマのリメイクが流行中だが、本作も1980年代の人気作「冒険野郎マクガイバー」が原点。しかし原点が主人公マクガイバー（リチャード・ディーン・アンダーソン）が単身活躍したのに対し、リメイク版はマクガイバー（ルーカス・ティル）が仲間たちと活躍する新趣向へ。
 
これは米国流のドラマ＆映画作りが21世紀、チームワークを重視するようになったのと重なって興味深い。たとえば本作を企画したピーター・M・レンコフは「ハワイ5-0」を「Hawaii Five-0」として復活させた“リメイク名人”だが、最新作も1980年代の人気作「私立探偵マグナム」のリメイク。筆者のような海外ドラマバカ的には「ハワイ5-0」後、同じハワイを舞台にした「私立探偵マグナム」が「Hawaii Five-0」のクリエイターによってリメイクされるのは、まるで歴史の再現のような奇跡だ。
 
……話がそれた。そんなレンコフと「Hawaii Five-0」を製作総指揮したアレックス・カーツマンらはJ・J・エイブラムス一派の共同作業の名手で、レンコフも彼らからチームワークを学んだのだろう。そしてこの「MACGYVER／マクガイバー」では、かつて映画界で名手として鳴らした監督たちを多くのエピソードで招いており、映画ファンも要注目だ。シーズン1は第1話を「ワイルド・スピード SKY MISSION」や最新作「アクアマン」のジェームズ・ワンが監督し、「グレムリン」のジョー・ダンテ監督、「飛べないアヒル」のスティーヴン・ヘレク監督も参加し、シーズン2もヘレク監督や「シティ・スリッカーズ」のロン・アンダーウッド監督らが参加。
 
ちなみにリメイク版「私立探偵マグナム」第1話は「ワイルド・スピード」シリーズや「SCORPION／スコーピオン」第1話のジャスティン・リンが監督。レンコフは「MACGYVER／マクガイバー」を映画に匹敵する痛快作にしようと挑んでいる。
