海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.265　 「FAMOUS IN LOVE」のベラ・ソーン、少女期に経験した父の死の傷跡、まだ癒えず

「FAMOUS IN LOVE」のベラ・ソーンは、少女時代から子役・モデルとして活躍、2010年から3シーズン続いたティーン・コメディ番組「シェキラ！」でゼンデイヤとW主演、若くしてスターの階段を駆け上がった。派手なルックス、言動でギャルっぽさも漂う23歳。しかし、彼女の振る舞いの裏側には、今も癒えぬ亡父への思いがある。
 
ベラの実父レイさんは2007年4月にオートバイ事故で死去。まだ44歳、ベラが9歳の時だった。その後、シングルマザーとして母タマラさんはベラを含む4人の子供を育て上げた。その生活は苦しく、ベラも家計を助けるために必死でオーディションを受けたという。「役がほしかった。家族を食べさせなきゃいけなかったから、私自身、飢えていたの」と、子供には重すぎるプレッシャーを感じながら、芸能活動を本格化させていた。
 
一家の大黒柱の役割を早くから背負ってきた分、亡き父レイさんに言いたいことは山ほど。4月の命日には自身のインスタグラムにレイさんとの思い出の写真をコメントを添えて投稿した。「（13年前の）この日、お父さんが亡くなって、翌日、私たち家族に残されたのはお父さんの遺品だけだった。今もこの空のどこかでお父さんが雲になって浮かんでいたらいいなと思うし、美しい鳥になって好きな場所を飛び回っていたらとも願う。時が癒やしてくれるなんて言うけれど、こんなに年月が流れても私の心は傷ついたまま。お父さん、どうか今夜私の夢に現れて、元気かいなんて声をかけて頂戴」
 
音楽活動を行うベラが最初に書いた詞もレイさんについて。「最初に書いた詞はお父さんのこと。メロディも何もない、ただ思いを詞に綴ったのよ。飛行機の中で、とにかく眠れなかったから。気持ちを落ち着かせたかったのね」その曲が世に出ることがあるとするならば、たくさんの人に聞いてもらいたいとベラ。その時はあの空の向こうの、お父さんがきっと耳にしてくれるはず。そんな願いが本気で叶うと信じているのだ。若きスターとなった今でも、亡父のことを考える時は9歳の女の子に逆戻り。その寂しさと愛情を隠すつもりなんてない。ベラの素直な言葉は、大切な人を亡くした若いファンの心をそっと癒しているに違いない。
