海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.456　 「LAW & ORDER: 組織犯罪特捜班」のディラン・マクダーモット、全ての俳優が見るべき演技とは？

「LAW & ORDER: 組織犯罪特捜班」で実業家兼裏組織のボス、リチャード・ウィートリーを演じる、ディラン・マクダーモット。 時代を代表する大物プロデューサーに愛されてきたディランは、1990年代後半からTVシリーズに出ずっぱりの売れっ子俳優だ。 ディランを最初に見出したのは、大物脚本家デビッド・E・ケリー。TVの経験に乏しかったディランを「ザ・プラクティス／ボストン弁護士ファイル」の主演に大抜擢した。また奇才ライアン・マーフィーは、ディランを立て続けに「アメリカン・ホラー・ストーリー」シリーズなどで起用している。 そして、最近ディランを最も寵愛しているのが、ディック・ウルフ。「LAW & ORDER: 組織犯罪特捜班」など「LAW & ORDER」シリーズ、さらに「シカゴ・ファイア」はじめ「シカゴ」シリーズも手がける米TV界の重鎮プロデューサーだ。
 
なぜ、ディランは数々の大物プロデューサーから愛されるのか？ それは「信頼」だと当人は言う。 「ライアン・マーフィーは、僕が何であるか知っている。ディック・ウルフも然りだ。彼らが僕に何ができるか見つけ出して、その仕事をくれるのさ。問題はそこに至るまでの関係を築くことができるかだ。信頼が肝心なんだ。一度、自分自身を証明することができれば、信頼はついてくるものさ」（ディラン）  一度与えられた信頼を裏切ることはない。それぞれの大物プロデューサーから愛され、キャリアを積み上げてきたディラン。間違いなくTV界の寵児の一人だ。 そんなディランが考える、「全ての俳優が見るべき演技」とは？
 
「映画『波止場』のマーロン・ブランドだね。いいようのない説得力がある。あの演技以降、皆にとって演技とは何かが変わってしまった。彼の演技はとてもリアル、真実そのものなんだ。痛みさえ現実に感じてしまう」  マーロン・ブランドとは違うかもしれないが、ディランの大物プロデューサーからの愛され力もまた才能。ハリウッドの多くの俳優がその才能を羨んでいることだろう。
