海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.519 　ジェームズ・スペイダー、愛する「ブラックリスト」との別れを語る

NBCで2013年に放送がスタートした「ブラックリスト」。ジェームズ・スペイダー主演の同シリーズは、当時アメリカでセンセーショナルな話題を呼び起こした大ヒットシリーズだ。
その「ブラックリスト」も、この夏シリーズ・フィナーレを迎える。主演そして製作総指揮を兼ねるジェームズは、シーズン10での終了をどう考えているのだろうか。ジェームズがNBCのインタビューに答えている。
 
「もしも『ブラックリスト』が翌シーズン以降も続くとしたら、全く違う作品になってしまうんじゃないかと思っていたよ」今が“終わり時”だと分析していたジェームズ。芸歴40年以上、映画・TVで主演をこなすベテラン実力派は冷静だった。
「この作品の良いところは、シリーズを通して明確な枠組みを持たなかったこと。エピソードごとに、トーンが変わることも珍しくなかった。少々いき過ぎだと思うこともあったくらいだ」10シーズンの間には、メインキャストの離脱もあった。なにより早いスピード展開を望む視聴者に応え、ジェームズ演じるレディントンの環境も変化し続けねばならなかった。変化を恐れなかった結果、中だるみを感じさせないストーリー、それを演じきったジェームズの役者力が、「ブラックリスト」の魅力そのものだった。
ジェームズは「ブラックリスト」を愛するがため、終止符に異論はない。
 
「これ以上続けていたら、作品に対する気持ちは変わっていくだろう、僕はそう思ったんだ」
もしかしてまだ続けることはできたのかもしれない。しかし、シーズン10でのレディントンとの別れは、ジェームズにとって「ブラックリスト」を最高の記憶として残す、完璧なタイミングでもあったのだ。
