海外ドラマおすすめコラム vol.89　ジャレッド・パダレッキの俳優人生の集大成! 「WALKER／ウォーカー シーズン2」独占日本初放送

2月のスーパー！ドラマＴＶの目玉は、「スーパーナチュラル（スパナチュ）」のサム役でおなじみのジャレッド・パダレッキが主演・製作総指揮を務める「WALKER／ウォーカー シーズン2」の独占日本初放送。
 
1993年から8年も全米放送が続いたオリジナル版『炎のテキサス・レンジャー』をリブートし、パダレッキが演じる主人公コーデル・ウォーカーの名前は同じだが、他はかなり変更。きっとパダレッキ自身に寄せたのだろう。
両親を失い(おじに育てられた)、結婚をする最終話まで独身だったオリジナル版とちがい、本作のウォーカーは両親が健在な上、妻エミリー(世を去ったが)も娘・息子もいれば、弟もいる。
パダレッキはエミリー役の妻ジュヌヴィエーヴ・コルテーゼとの間に子どもが3人いるが、パダレッキたちが結婚したのは2010年。ウォーカーの子どもたちはパダレッキの実生活よりやや年上か。また「スパナチュ」のサムはディーンの弟だったので、兄役はパダレッキの挑戦かもしれない。
オリジナル版のウォーカーは暴れん坊のタフガイだったが、パダレッキ版も勇敢ながらより繊細に。何より重要なのはパダレッキ自身、舞台であるテキサス州の出身だ。
 
このシーズン2、「スパナチュ」ファンにとって最高のお楽しみは前出のディーン役、ジェンセン・アクレスが監督を務めた第14話。「スパナチュ」で15年をともにしたパダレッキとアクレスは、このエピソードの収録でもジョークを言い合ったとか。
そしてシーズン2全体ではミッキ(演じるリンゼイ・モーガンもテキサス州で育った)が潜入捜査で活躍するのがスリリングな上、ウォーカーの家族にも色々と問題が発生する。
 
近年、各シーズンのエピソード数が10～13という米国のドラマが増えたが、このシーズン2は全20話。多くのシーズンが20話以上あった「スパナチュ」を思い返すと、パダレッキはサービス精神旺盛なのだろう。まさにパダレッキの“俳優人生の集大成”だ。
