海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.581 　出演回数400話超えの大ベテラン、サム・ウォーターストン、「LAW & ORDER」降板へ

米のロングランシリーズ「LAW & ORDER」の中で最多の出演回数を誇るベテラン俳優のサム・ウォーターストンが、新シーズンのシーズン23で降板することがわかった。
 
1990年に米NBCでスタートした「LAW & ORDER」は、一話完結型のドラマシリーズとして人気を博し、「LAW & ORDER: 性犯罪特捜班」「LAW & ORDER: 組織犯罪特捜班」などのスピンオフ、また海外でもフランチャイズとして数か国で製作されている。2010年に放送されたシーズン20で一旦終了したものの、2022年に奇跡の復活。現在シーズン23が放送されている。
 
サムはシーズン5から23までレギュラーとして出演中。「LAW & ORDER」で演じるキャラクター、ジャック・マッコイはシーズン5でNYの地方検事補佐として初登場し、シーズン17では暫定地方検事に昇進、さらにシーズン20では選挙によってNY郡地方検事に就任していた。
出演回数は400話を超え、1994年の初登場時には54歳だったサムも、現在は83歳。
2022年に「LAW & ORDER」が復活を果たした際には、それまでのおなじみのメンバーだったS・エパサ・マーカーソン、レスリー・ヘンドリックスら長年のレギュラーは再出演せず、サムとシーズン18からの主演アンソニー・アンダーソンのみがシーズン21に登場していた。
 
クリエーターのディック・ウルフは、復活当時、サムの演じるキャラクターについて「番組の良心」と表現。実在したNY郡の地方検事ロバート・モーゲンソウの名を挙げ「彼(サム)には、90歳まで現役を貫いたモーゲンソウ検事のイメージで演じてほしい」と期待を寄せていた。
降板にあたり、サムは「次のステージに移る時が来ました。ジャック・マッコイと共に私は去ります」と声明を発表。「番組を去るのは寂しいですが、私はむしろ次にどんな人生が待っているか楽しみです」と、“隠居”のための降板ではないこともアピールした。
 
サムの最後の出演回は2月22日(米時間)に放送される。ジャック・マッコイの後釜となる新地方検事役には、トニー・ゴールドウィン(「スキャンダル 託された秘密」)の起用が決まっている。
