海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.654 　「Dr. HOUSE」オマー・エップスは愛妻家

「Dr. HOUSE」でグレゴリー・ハウス医師(ヒュー・ローリー)のチームの一人、エリック・フォアマン医師を演じたオマー・エップス。「ER緊急救命室」や映画『メジャーリーグ２』、さらに北野武監督の『BROTHER』など数々の話題作に出演している実力派スターだ。
 
男性としての色気にあふれたオマーは、ハリウッド屈指の愛妻家でもある。
その幸運な女性はキーシャ・エップス。R＆Bグループ、トータルのメンバーの一人で、オマーとは2006年に結婚した。
結婚生活が20年近くなった今も、オマーは「妻と一緒にあるイベントに出席した時、彼女があまりに美しくて、思わず手を取って踊りだしてしまった」とのろけるほど。
キーシャだって負けていない。SNSの投稿で2人の写真に「最初に出会った時、まるで映画の一場面みたいだった」とコメントしている。
 
おしどり夫婦の2人も最初から順調だったわけではない。最初のデートは1992年。短い交際期間で破局した。キーシャにとってオマーは「過去の人になった」と当時は完全に心が離れてしまったのだとか。オマーも映画『ワン・オン・ワン ファイナル・ゲーム』で共演したサナ・レイサンと交際は有名だし、1999年には別の女性との間に一女を授かっている。
それでも何かが2人を再び引き寄せた。「全てを明かすつもりはない」とオマーは語る。明かさずとも、2人の関係が運命なのは確かだ。
オマーにとって、長続きの秘訣とは「別れるという選択を無くしたこと」。
「それで僕らの衝突の仕方が変わったんだ。もちろん今だってケンカはする。だけど、敬意をもって対応できるようになった」(オマー)
 
二度と離れることはない。2人で決めたことだから、ケンカしたって仲直りが前提なのだ。
オマーはSNSでキーシャについて愛を綴っている。
「僕にとって完璧な存在であり、女神であり、最愛の人。自分より大切な人に出会えるなんてね。これからも2人で歩んでいこう、残りの人生、そしてその後の世界も……」
 
現在は俳優業の他、本の執筆も手掛けるオマー。肩書に“愛妻家”と加えられても照れることはない。
