「ヴァンパイア・ダイアリーズ」から「オリジナルズ」、「ARROW／アロー」から「THE FLASH（原題）」と、放送中の人気ドラマからスピンオフが次々ヒットを飛ばしている、米テレビネットワークのThe CW。「ARROW／アロー」からは第二のスピンオフ企画が浮上するなど、スピンオフ製作に積極的だ。
そのThe CWで最も長く続くドラマといえば、「スーパーナチュラル」。米国では、現在シーズン10を放送中で、次シーズンの放送継続も決定した。その「スーパーナチュラル」のスピンオフ・エピソード「SUPERNATURAL : BLOODLINES」は、シーズン９第20話として、米国で昨年放送されたものの、シリーズ化はCWが却下。サムとディーンに関係のない新キャラが多く、「スーパーナチュラル」ファンにウケが悪かったのが原因の一つと言われている。
ファンががっかりしたのもつかの間、次なる「スーパーナチュラル」スピンオフの企画が早くもシーズン10終盤に用意されているという。製作総指揮者の一人、ジェレミー・カーヴァ―が明かしたもので、「シーズン10の中で、新スピンオフの“さわり”部分を描く予定」だとか。
「SUPERNATURAL : BLOODLINES」の評判が良くなかったことが、よほど悔しいのだろうか、「正しいアイデアだと確信するまで話を進展させるつもりはない」とカーヴァ―。二度目のチャレンジで、熱烈かつ目の肥えた「スーパーナチュラル」ファンを納得させることができるだろうか…。
