ある日、ピアというティーンエイジャーが何者かに殺されて、崖の下に投げ込まれるという事件が起きた。この事件には、麻薬を扱う暴力団の幹部が関係していると感じた司法長官ビットリオは、事件の真相を知っているとみられるピアの友人、マリアの証言を得るため、彼女を隠れ家から連れ出し、証人台に立つまで保護する重大な役目をバロンに頼む。
