黒焦げになった女性の死体が発見された。焼け残った指の指紋から、NCISロス支局のメイシー捜査官と判明し、彼女に恩のあるギブスは衝撃を受ける。メイシーはマルセイユに転属していたが、何らかの理由で数日前アメリカに帰国。ダッキーによれば殺しに手慣れた人間が大型ナイフでノドを掻き切ったようだと言う。
