FBIがトニーの監視を解かないので弁護士ニール・ミンクはしばらく合法事業だけに従事するように勧める。しかしじっとしていることでトニーのストレスは増大し、情緒不安定から発作を起こすようになる。一方メルフィはトニーの心療前に酒を飲むようになり、息子ジェイスンと食事するレストランでも隣席の喫煙女性と口論するほどになる。友人のセラピスト、エリオットにトニーとの関係を切れないのは病的な強迫観念にとりつかれていると診断される。
