海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.392　 「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」のメイエム・ビアリックが最後までエイミー役を争った女優とは？

天才理系男子たちの不器用な人生模様をコミカルに描いたシットコム「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」。主役シェルドン・クーパー（ジム・パーソンズ）のガールフレンド、エイミー・ファラ・ファウラーを演じている女優といえば、「ブロッサム」でもおなじみのメイエム・ビアリックだ。メイエム自身がカリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校にて神経科学の博士号を取得した才女とあって、天才シェルドンの恋人役にぴったりなキャスティングと思えるが、実はそのエイミー役を最後まで争った女優がもう一人いたという。
 
そのあと一歩でエイミーだった女優とは、ケイト・ミクーチ。米国では、ミュージック・コメディ「Garfunkel and Oates（原題）」に主演し、個性的な歌声も披露している。メイエムに勝るとも劣らないマルチタレントな女優なのだ。オーディションで争った二人、メイエムの勝因、もしくはケイトの敗因が何かは分からない。しかし、おそらくその差は僅差だったに違いない。のちにケイトはラージ（クナル・ネイヤー）の恋人ルーシー役で「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」に出演している。
 
ケイト版エイミーも気になるが、それでもメイエムが選ばれたことは成功だったかもしれない。メイエムが演じたエイミーは最終回まで全203話まで登場し続けた。さらにジムとは仕事仲間として気が合ったのだろう、「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」終了後もタッグを組んでいる。ジムが製作総指揮の一人に名を連ねるシットコム「Call Me Kat（原題）」の主演にメイエムを抜擢したのだ。また、メイエムは昨年、1964年から続く長寿クイズ番組「Jeopardy!（原題）」の後継司会者にも選ばれている。「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」「Jeopardy!（原題）」と、大役は決して逃がさない。子役からハリウッドを生き抜いてきた、メイエムは強運のスターなのだ。
