海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.613 　デビッド・クラムホルツ、「NUMBERS 天才数学者の事件ファイル」のリブートは断念?

アカデミー賞受賞映画『オッペンハイマー』では、並みいるスター共演者の中でもくせ者ぶりを発揮したデビッド・クラムホルツ。米エンタメサイトの取材にて、「NUMBERS 天才数学者の事件ファイル」のリブートを考えていたことを明かした。
 
デビッドが、マイケル・J・フォックス主演の『ライフ with マイキー』でメジャーデビューしたのが15歳の時。以降出演作には事欠かないデビッドのTVシリーズ初主演作が「NUMBERS 天才数学者の事件ファイル」だ。2005年から6シーズンにわたり、米CBSで放送され人気を呼んだ。
「LAW & ORDER」「CSI:科学捜査班」「S.W.A.T.」など、近年リブートされた人気シリーズは数知れず。その成功がうらやましかったのか、デビッドも自身の主演作のリブートを思い付いたのだという。
「何年か前の話だけど、僕は『NUMBERS 天才数学者の事件ファイル』のクリエーターに連絡をとり、『もう一度やってみよう。あちこちでリブートが流行っているじゃないか』と、背中を押したことがあるんだ」
 
主演スターが乗り気なら話は早い。CBSにリブート企画が持ち込まれた。
「CBSは却下したらしいよ。だから(リブートの)話はそれでおしまい!」
「NUMBERS 天才数学者の事件ファイル」は、デビッド演じる天才数学者チャーリー・エプスが、FBI捜査官の兄ドン(ロブ・モロー)と共に難事件を解決する痛快なストーリー。ジャド・ハーシュ、ピーター・マクニコルら脇も実力派が揃い、放送終了から10年以上経つ今も色褪せないTVシリーズだ。
 
一度はリブートに前のめりだったデビッドも、時が過ぎ、気持ちも変わった。いや、外見も変わった?
「(『NUMBERS 天才数学者の事件ファイル』の頃から)髪の量がずいぶん減ってしまった。だから、視聴者に『昔は(チャーリーの)ヘアスタイルが魅力だったのに』なんて思われたくないんだ」
 
デビッドの魅力は毛量くらいで失われたりしないが、もう未練もないらしい。それでも、毛量豊かなチャーリーは、これからもずっとファンの心の中に生き続ける。
