海外ドラマおすすめコラム vol.99　豪華メンバーが集結した大人向けコメディ「モーツァルト・イン・ザ・ジャングル」

12月のスーパー！ドラマＴＶの目玉は「モーツァルト・イン・ザ・ジャングル」の初放送。
ゴールデン・グローブ賞のTV部門でコメディシリーズ作品賞を制し、「モーターサイクル・ダイアリーズ」などで知られる映画界の人気スター、ガエル・ガルシア・ベルナルが同主演男優賞に輝くなど高い評価を受けた、大人のための秀作コメディだ。
 
舞台はニューヨークの架空の交響楽団。そこで天才的(まさにモーツァルト風)な新任指揮者ロドリゴ(ガエル・ガルシア・ベルナル)、オーボエ奏者ヘイリー(ローラ・カーク)らが巻き起こす波乱を描く。
本作を企画したのは映画界で知られる4人。名匠フランシス・フォードを父親に持つ映画監督ロマン・コッポラと、その年の離れた従弟でウェス・アンダーソン監督作品の常連俳優であるジェイソン・シュワルツマン、映画「アバウト・ア・ボーイ」が好評だったポール・ワイツ監督、映画「メリーに首ったけ」の脚本家ジョン・ストラウスだ。
 
4人は、実在するオーボエ奏者ブレア・ティンドール(ヘイリーのモデルだろう)によるニューヨーク・フィルハーモニック、ブロードウェイなどの回顧録を原作にした。クラシックのオーケストラはまるで家族であると同時に、オフでは団員同士の恋愛など、かなり自由。そこで繰り広げられるオフビートな人間模様が見ものだ。
同時に本作は音楽にも力を入れており、ロドリゴのモデルとなった有名な指揮者グスターボ・ドゥダメルなど、実在する音楽家たちが多数カメオ出演。クラシック音楽好きなら目が離せなくなるだろう。
 
またシーズン4で楽団は東京を訪れるが、加瀬亮、原田美枝子、藤谷文子、「HEROES／ヒーローズ」のマシ・オカらが豪華共演。番組がヒットするとその作品から離脱するクリエイターが多い中、企画を務めた4大クリエイターは全4シーズンにわたって仲よく番組を支え、まるで“カルテット（四重奏）”のよう。映画に匹敵する物語空間を堪能したい。
