海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.667 　ガエル・ガルシア・ベルナル、「モーツァルト・イン・ザ・ジャングル」で音楽の扉が開く

「モーツァルト・イン・ザ・ジャングル」は、奇想天外な天才指揮者ロドリゴ・デ・ソウザがニューヨーク交響楽団に旋風を巻き起こすコメディタッチのドラマシリーズだ。ゴールデングローブ賞ではコメディ／ミュージカルシリーズ部門作品賞及び、主演のガエル・ガルシア・ベルナルが同部門最優秀男優賞を受賞している。
主役のロドリゴを演じるガエルが、米TVのインタビューに答え、同シリーズを通して、音楽への知識を深めたことを明かしている。
 
天才指揮者を演じる以前、ガエルはクラシック音楽についてほとんど知識がなかったという。
「ごくごく基本的なことしか知りませんでした。だけど、今では(クラシック音楽の)崇拝者になりましたよ。『モーツァルト・イン・ザ・ジャングル』のおかげで、音楽の世界に飛び込めたのです。もう音楽無しでは生きていけません」
クラシック音楽の常識に果敢に挑むロドリゴは、興味の範囲はクラシックだけにとどまらない。
「クラシック音楽からコンテンポラリーミュージック、ロックまで、音楽の新しい扉が開きました。サルサ音楽をこんなに深く分析したことはありません。マンボのアレンジを考えたことがありますか? クラシック音楽は踏み込むと限界がありません。どんどん深みにはまってゆくのです」
 
これまでは趣味として、またBGMとして耳に流れていた音楽も、専門家としての知識を学ぶと聞こえ方が違ってくるものらしい。
「このごろ、僕はベートーヴェンの弦楽四重奏曲をよく聞いています。たとえば、第16番にはあるテーマがあって、天国と人生に対して感謝いっぱいになる瞬間があるのです。そこに至るまでにたくさんの苦労を重ねます」
「明日になると、答えは変わるかも」とお茶目なガエル。突き進めば進むほど、新しい音楽を発見する。そのプロセスを飛び切り楽しんでいる。
 
視聴者の音楽の扉を開くことができたなら。ガエルは、「モーツァルト・イン・ザ・ジャングル」で自分が見つけた歓びを皆にも分け与えたいと心から願っている。
