シンディ・シュトラウス殺人事件における重要証人が急死し、公判に影響をきたしかねない事態になった。テリーとヒルディは急死の真相を探るべく奔走する。一方でエリック･ブラントの弁護士ウォーレン・ダニエルズは、ブラントの無実を証明する好機ととらえ、この出来事を利用しようとする。
