牧場主ケイルが固定資産税を払えず、保安官助手のフォーヨーを人質にとって納屋に立てこもる。応援を待っていたドリスケル保安官の頭上に海兵隊のヘリが。パイロットのタニー少佐が独断で納屋を攻撃し、ケイルは死亡、フォーヨーは倒れた木材の下敷きになり重傷を負う。マスコミは軍が民間の事件に介入したと大々的に報じ、早急な解決を求められたマックとハーモンは現地の調査へと向かう。
