連続殺人犯からかかってきた電話の向こうに消防車のサイレンが聞こえたことを手がかりに、サムは巡査当時の逮捕者の中から「ジェラルド・ダン」という男を見つけ出す。自宅に張り込み、出てきたジェラルドを尾行してダイナーで声をかけるサム。しかしジェラルドは特に動じる様子もなく……。
