海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.19　「エレメンタリー ホームズ＆ワトソン in NY」新シーズン更新のワケ

Elementary_yr4_＃85(4-13)_ELE-epi0413-D_0037bi.jpg米CBSは放送中の「エレメンタリー ホームズ＆ワトソン in NY」の新シーズンとなる、シーズン7の更新を決定した。中堅ドラマシリーズの更新を決めた、その裏には複雑な事情があったようだ。
 
同番組の現シーズン（シーズン6）が、4月30日にスタート。初回の放送は470万人（ライブ及び当日の視聴者数）で、昨シーズンの平均480万人とほぼ同じ。「NCIS」シリーズや「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」など人気シリーズを多くかかえるCBSにとっては、少し物足りない数字ではあるものの、視聴者をほとんど減らさず初回を迎えたことが、新シーズン更新に最後の一押しとなったようだ。
 
しかし、CBSにはその更新の決め手となる、もっと別の理由があったと米メディアは報じている。
 
「エレメンタリー ホームズ＆ワトソン in NY」は、米国内でCBSの他に、再放送をケーブル局のWGNアメリカで、過去のシーズンを映像配信サービスのHuluでそれぞれ視聴できる。その際の再放送権料の合計は一話当たり300万ドル（約3億3000万円）。つまりエピソード数、シーズン数が増えるごとに再放送権収入もアップする計算なのだ。さらに肝心なのは、同番組についてはCBSが権利を100％所有していること。他の製作スタジオと共同ならば、利益を分かち合わなければならないが、自社所有ならその必要はない。
 
また“シャーロック・ホームズ”ブランドを生かして、国際市場での需要も高いのが強みでもある。2年前、レス・ムーンヴェスCBS社長は、「『エレメンタリー ホームズ＆ワトソン in NY』は、過去一年の間に約8000万ドル（88億円）の利益をもたらした」と明かしており、同番組はまさに「CBSのドル箱」（ハリウッドリポーター紙）なのだ。
 
こんなおいしい番組を手放せない。CBSでは「エレメンタリー ホームズ＆ワトソン in NY」の最終シーズンを決めておらず、シーズン8以降の継続も視野に入っているようだ。
