FBIのボストン支局に、「アーティスト」なる男による殺人の予告ファックスが。アーティストは３年前、４人の女性を殺したのだが、その後犯行は止まっていた。一方、爆破前のビルの地下トンネルから、少年が発見され病院に移される。少年は一言もしゃべらないが、オリビアのメモ帳に「サム・ギルモア」と書く。その後アーティストの犯行予告通り女性が遺体で発見され、身元はサマンサ（サム）・ギルモアと判明する。だが少年とサム・ギルモアの関連性は見つからない。
