海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.160　「スタートレック ディスカバリー」のソネクア・マーティン＝グリーン、「MANIFEST／マニフェスト」のメリッサ・ロクスバーグがトークイベントに出席

「スタートレック　ディスカバリー」のソネクア・マーティン＝グリーン 、「MANIFEST／マニフェスト」メリッサ・ロクスバーグらTVで活躍する女優が参加したトークイベントが、米エンタメ誌の主催で行われた。
 
「22歳になる前にオスカーくらい獲れるだろうと思ってたの。そうはならなかったけどね」と、お気楽に語るのはメリッサ。現実は厳しいと分かった今では笑い話だが、あっけらかんとした性格は女優向きか。
 
「それだから面白いんだと思うの。何が起こるか想像できない毎日を送ってるわ。たくさん嫌なことがある一方で、それに勝る楽しいことがあるのが俳優という仕事。一度やってみたら、とってもエキサイティングだと分かってもらえるはずよ」（メリッサ）
 
「（俳優業には）たくさん嫌なことがあるわ。まさかと思うようなこともね」とメリッサの意見に呼応したのはソネクア。しかし、何事にもソネクアは負けなかった。なぜなら“経験”があったから。
 
「学校が大嫌いだったわ。教育自体は素晴らしかったのよ。だけど、私は南部の出身だから、たくさん選択肢があったとは言えなかった。学校ではつらい“経験”をしたわ」（ソネクア）
 
ソネクアの出身はアラバマ州。米国で最も貧困な州の一つと言われており、保守的な考えの浸透した州でもある。
 
「自分の居場所を見つけるのは大変だった」（ソネクア）
 
黒人女優として、白人女優のメリッサとはまた違った思いを語ったソネクア。「ウォーキング・デッド」から「スタートレック」シリーズと、売れっ子街道まっしぐらの今、やっと自分の居場所を見つけた気分だろう。
 
メリッサもソネクアも共に人気番組の主演。若手女優では頭角を表した存在だ。これまでは異なる道を歩んできたが、今では肩を並べている。今後はどんな道のりを歩むのだろうか、注目してゆきたい。
