共和党の党大会が始まった。民主党は来る党大会では、確実に候補を出さねばならない。何としても候補になりたいラッセル陣営は、サントスに「選挙戦を降りれば副大統領候補にする」と提案してくる。一方、国際宇宙ステーションで酸素が漏れていることが発覚。クルーでは修理ができず、地上でも全力で解決策を探るが、なかなか方法が見つからない。スペースシャトルで救出に向かおうにも、肝心のシャトルが修復中で間に合わない。NASA長官、ケイト、CJが対応策を話すうち、長官が軍用のシャトルの存在をほのめかすが、会議ではクルーのうち1人はロシア人なので、機密を守るために軍用シャトルは使えないと言われる。
