ビル・シールズが甥っ子のバースデーパーティから失踪。ビルは娘を白血病で亡くしてからは妻とも別居し、沈みがちだったが最近は元気を取り戻していたと言う妹。ビルの家から幼児ポルノの写真が大量に出てくる。しかし妹も別居中の妻ジュリーもビルはそんな人間ではないと証言するが、ジュリーはビルが少し前、男を襲って逮捕された事実を話す。襲われた男は性犯罪の前科がある男で、ビルがある女の子の写真を持って近くに住んでいないか聞いてきたと言う。
