作家で大学教授のブルース・モリソンから、娘たちが消えたとの通報が入る。彼の家ではちょうど1年前にも失踪事件が起こっていた。1年前、ブルースの妻ジュディは、不倫が発覚した直後に失踪。ブルースに妻殺しの容疑がかかったが、ジュディの遺体が見つからなかったため証拠不十分で不起訴となっていた。
