ギデオンなきＢＡＵに、伝説のプロファイラーが戻ってくる。彼の名はデヴィッド・ロッシ。ＢＡＵの創立メンバーで、数々の難事件を解決。10年前に引退したあとは著作や講演会、コンサルタント業などで活躍し、ひとかどの有名人になっている。そのロッシが自ら復帰を志願したことに、セクション・チーフのストラウスとロッシをよく知るホッチは当惑するが、若手の面々は伝説的な大先輩と仕事ができることに興奮気味だ。
